Day 4-7 Discovering Evora

Evora is positioned in the centre of the Alentejo region and typifies the relaxed nature of the Alentejo people. Evora quiet simply is charming; cobbled streets of white washed houses, numerous historical sights, all surrounded by the olive tree plains of the Alentejo. Evora is designed so a whole day can be sat in the sun drinking coffee and watch the unhurried day slowly pass, for the explorers there are numerous sights including:

Tourist who rented a car are recommended to visit the village of Monsaraz which is south east from Evora; Monsaraz is regarded as the most charming town of the Alentejo. Day 8 - 9 Elvas The Fortified Town

Elvas is close to the border with Spain and the two countries turbulent history has resulted in the defences of Elvas being the most extensive and sophisticated of western Europe. Day 10-12 - Portalegre

Portalegre is an attractive town which was constructed on the wealth from the textile industry which predominant here during the 17-18th century. The Rua 19 de Junho is the main street with the grand mansions built during the hey day of the town. A day trip should be take from Portalegre to the hill top town of Marvao, Marvao has superb views across the Alentejo region and a wonderful castle in the centre of the compact town. The Serra de Sao Mamede though not as popular as other nation parks in Portugal is excellent for hiking.

Day 13 Until Day of Departure - The Towns Surrounding Lisbon

Lisbon is surrounded by a number of delightful towns of very distinct charms, the two destinations which should be high on the list are Cascais and Sintra. Both destinations can be visited by catching the train from Lisbon and are only 30 minutes from central lisbon.

Cascais is the beach resort where many of Lisbon's rich and famous life and hang out, the beaches around are excellent and the town centre is full of charm. For Information on Cascais or Images of Cascais.

 

Sintra contains three very distinct castle, the colourfully painted Pena (feather) Palace, the imposing Moorish castle and the Palácio de National (or affectionately known as the village palace.
