Portugal Golden triangle Tour lisbon, Evora and Vila Nova de Milfontes

The "Portugal's Golden Triangle Tour" covers three of Portugal's greatest destinations: Lisbon for Culture, Vila Nova de Milfontes for beaches and Evora for history. Each of the three cities is completely unique and this tour will provide a fantastic holiday for visitors who want to total discover Portugal. The tourist route includes the capital Lisbon, the pretty fishing town of Vila Nova de Milfontes which hides some of the best undiscovered beaches of Portugal, and the historic town of Evora situated in the heart of the Alentejo region.

This tour has been designed to use the excellent coach network of Portugal but those who Rent a Car will be able further to discover each of the areas surrounding the destinations. Portugal is an easy and friendly country to travel  and this tour can be planned and organised by even a novice traveler. It is suggested that 14 days is the optimum length, a longer trip can be more rewarding while shortening the tour reduces the time to discover each of the cities. During August Vila Nova de Milfontes becomes very popular making accommodation and buses difficult to find and the tour route is not recommended.

Day 1-3 Lisbon

Day 4-8 - vila Nova de Milfontes

Vila Nova de Milfontes is one of the prettiest coastal resorts within Portugal and is completely undiscovered by non-Portuguese tourists. The town is full of relaxed charm and the beaches are some of the best in Europe, golden sand is plentiful in small coves or giant expanses. Highlights of Vila Nova Include:

  • Sampling each of Vila Nova’s varied beaches, the powerful surfing beach, the secluded cove beach or the family orientated estuary beach.
  • Completely unwinding while in one of the cafes overlooking the small harbour and absorb the relaxed atmosphere.
  • Eating freshly cooked fish in one of the many excellent restaurants

The first bus of the day to Vila Nova de Milfontes is at 7:30am (full list of bus times), the journey takes approximately 3.5 hours and the buses leave from the Sete Rois bus station. During the summer months the weekend buses are book well in advance and are completely full during august.

Day 9-11 - Evora

Catch the 9:35 bus to Evora – this route requires a connection at Setubal and the total journey takes 5 hours. There is only one suitable bus per day and there is no suitable connections for the reverse route. Click here to see the full time table for bus from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Evora.

 

Evora has enjoyed an eventful past and is second only to Lisbon, for the number of recognised historic sites. As Evora is situated in the hot plains of the Alentejo the city has a rightly deserved reputation as the most relaxed city in Portugal the old men will sit all day just to watch the world go by. Evora is a beautiful walled city with cobbled streets and treasures round every corner. Sights of Evora include:

Day 12 - Return to Lisbon

Morning in Evora and catch the afternoon coach back to Lisbon. For information and times of bus on this route please click here click here. In the evening treat your self a meal in Baixa and a late night drink.

Day 13 - Lisbon Day trip

Use Lisbon as a base and explore local tourist towns which surround the capital. Towns to visit should include:

  • Sintra town of three distinct castles and wooded walks.

  • Cascais and Estoril coastal towns with excellent beaches and home to lisbon's wealthy.

  • Obidos a beautiful hill topped walled city north of the capital.

    Day 14 - Flight Home

Last day in Lisbon for souvenir buying and lapping up the atmosphere before heading back to your home country.
