Palacio Nacional, Belem, Lisbon

The Palacio Nacional de Belem (Belem National Palace) with its distinctive pink colour is the official residence of the President of Portugal. It is a grand low rise building situated on a small hill over looking the Afonso de Albuquerque Square which was once a harbour. The Palácio Nacional de Belem (Belem National Palace) was initially built during the 16th century in a highly desirable location; close to the monastery of Jeronimos and on the outskirts of Lisbon. Now it is the official residence of the President of Portugal, but most prefer to life in their own non-pink accommodation!
