The Roofs of Baixa & Rossio, Lisbon

This image was image taken from the battlements of Castelo Sao Jorge which over look the roofs of the Baixa District. The sights that can be seen from the view point include; Praça da Figueira (centre of the image), Rossio Train Station (left) and the Avenida da Liberdade (green strip of trees). Baixa in English translates to lower and Baixa is the district between the two hills of Barrio Alto and Alfama. The entire area was rebuilt after the destructive earthquake of 1755 and was one of the first cities to have a grid pattern of streets.
