Lisbon is a city that was designed for exploring by foot; highlights are concealed down every street be that an architectural masterpiece through to a local’s cafe, while there are whole districts of the capital where the streets are too narrow to even allow a bus to enter. Our walking tours have been specially planned to help you discover Lisbon, so tie up your shoelaces grab a bottle of water and follow our detailed walking tours:
- Castelo De Sao Jorge Walking Tour (East of Central Lisbon)
- Rossio to Bairro Alto Walking Tour (West of Central Lisbon)
- Belem Walking Tour (The Belem District)
The three walking tours explore three very distinct districts of Lisbon and each takes approximately half a tourist day (3 hours). Lisbon has expanded across 7 hills of varying heights so during the walking tours expect to climb some steep streets especially around the Lisbon Castle and Chiado.
The Belem walking tour covers the delightful district of Belem to the west of Central Lisbon. The district is based along the River Tejo and was the base for Portugal’s golden era of seafaring brilliance. Belem flourished on the riches imported from the colonies and funded the construction of the magnificent Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. Belem is a joy to explore as the entire area is set in carefully maintained park land and the only way to explore is on foot...... To read further the Belem walking tour please click here. The Castelo De Sao Jorge Walking Tour explores the east of central Lisbon and covers two unique district of Lisbon; Alfama and Baixa & Rossio. Baixa on the other hand was completely destroyed in the 1755 earthquake and the reconstructed district was built in a grid pattern with grand buildings and imposing squares..... The site of expo 98 has been converted into a wonderfully modern district with striking architecture and plenty of family activities. A true walking tour guide is not required as the park can be easily explored but set aside a morning or afternoon to experience modern Lisbon.
